Aesthetics Of Exclusion

Wanted: intern

Aesthetics of Exclusion is looking for a pro-active intern. Primarily you will focus on visual research, developing and exploring different conceptual directions of the project and assisting in setting up workshops, presentations and exhibitions. We are looking for someone with a lot of experience using Adobe Creative Suite, for example from a background in (graphic) design, art or architecture. You have a natural eye for aesthetics. Programming experience is not required (in case you are a programmer and are also interested in an internship, do send us a message).

During the internship you work on two main projects. The first is the longterm development of StreetSwipe, at this moment it is still a beta version. The second is a collaboration with the Centre for Urban Studies of the University of Amsterdam. There Aesthetics of Exclusion will collaborate with the scientific members of the center. Based on their academic research, we will experiment with different ways of visualizing data and theory. We will organize open conversations with the scientists working at the center and together develop new experiments, iterations and visualizations of existing and research in progress. You are also welcome to bring in a project yourself you wish to explore during the internship.

Most of the time you will work with Sjoerd ter Borg and in his studio located in De IJsbrand in Amsterdam-Noord, however there are several other artists/designers/coders/scientists you will engage with during the internship. The internship is for about 3 days a week, the exact amount of days and duration is open for discussion. Payment is about 200 euro a month. Ideally you will start in February, March or April, as the collaboration with the Centre of Urban Studies starts in April. You will learn a lot about interdisciplinary projects in the field of art/design, artistic research, fundraising and the whole process of setting up projects from beginning to end. Send a motivation and portfolio to info@sjoerdterborg.nl.
